Review | Kody Free, "Consciousness/Overnight"

by Darius Mullin @iamdariusmullin

Kody Free (formerly known as Kode Red) just released his first new music in ages

After lots of badgering to release something from fans and other artists, “Consciousness” and “Overnight” are finally available on all platforms now.

We’re here to break down the double single and let you know what to expect.

“Shout out to God for the next chapter.”

Kody Free busts back onto the scene over a mellow, moody beat produced by pandacaf√©’s reid. Smooth tones navigate laid-back yet emotional verses and choruses. Kody does a phenomenal job building an atmosphere here, and the track fades into an echoey end as he sings “I don’t wanna talk about it.” This song has the chill vibes of a good background track and simultaneously the good lyrical content of a song that holds your attention and interest.

“Lately the flow more experimental.”

Switching things up to a lighter vibe, Kody presents a bouncy, short and sweet song that’s definitely going on my summer playlist. The song is self-produced, and quite unique among the artist’s discography if memory serves. It’s a whole vibe though, with Kody really busting out the pipes for a catchy chorus and smooth synths throughout.

Kody Free’s comeback double single definitely does not disappoint! Let us know in the comments what you thought!
