Hnst Talk: Damien Clinton

by Eric Boston @EricBoston3

You have seen the artwork representing many of your favorite CHH songs and albums.

From Xay Hill and PoetiCS to Joe Ayinde and Enoch Flow Records, Damien Clinton brings musical ideas into the visual space.

"It started when I saw the artwork that Kevin Hackett was putting together for the guys Topi Mandela & Adrian Stresow a couple of years back. I had never thought of combining my love for music with my design skills, so I designed a couple of fan art pieces."

"One of my friends suggested that I DM a bunch of the artists that I was listening to on SoundCloud and Instagram and offer them free artwork. He was a huge Gary Vee fan at the time, haha. So I did that, gained experience, experimented with various styles, learned a whole lot of new techniques, and then it kind of just grew from there."

"Before I knew it, I was no longer sending DMs, but receiving them."

"Music has been a huge part of my life since I can remember. My love for music really grew in my teen years."

"I was actually more of a metalhead before a friend introduced me to Eminem. From there it was Dr. Dre, Xzibit, Cypress Hill, Busta Rhymes, Methodman, Redman, you know...all of those 90's hip hop legends."

"Once I was reborn I realized how important it was to watch what we fed our minds, so I started searching for Christian hip hop."

"I was hooked on Lecrae and Trip Lee for the longest time after that. Then I discovered Rapzilla [along with] more artists. SoundCloud was my source for finding the more underground CHH artists. Now, @DadbyFaith is my main go-to guy for CHH music. I stalk his tweets every Thursday for all the new releases. I have found so many great artists through him."

Making connections and even doing free work are essential parts of starting out, especially in this space. However, you are always looking for that first client.

"I believe it was J-Phish, Joe Ayinde, and Cortes."

Those connections have led to Clinton joining the Enoch Flow Records family. EFR has been putting out quality releases since its launch in 2018. Adding Clinton to the team creates a new dynamic that will certainly help the label as well as the designer himself.

"EFR had been bringing me a lot of work, keeping me really busy. I mean, I did their logo, some of their artist logos, and a whole bunch of cover artwork. We were chatting one day and it was something that was kind of lingering at the back of both of our minds. What if we joined forces? So we did and I am now a part of the Enoch Flow family."

"It's still the early stages, but I'm part of a team now, so that means we all have a support system. Things will be more efficient and we all have a common goal that we are working towards, bringing glory to God's name and spreading His word."

If you are looking for artwork for your next project, Damien Clinton is a great choice. The one thing you need to know is how to get connected with him.

"DM me on Instagram (dc_graphicdesign), Twitter (@DamienClinton), or Facebook. Alternatively via Enoch Flow Records on all social media platforms."
